First United Methodist Church of Port Orange prepares for the Christmas season by decorating the inside of their sanctuary.
Right as church service ended on Sunday, Nov. 25, volunteers unloaded trucks full of Christmas trees and wreaths. In preparation for Advent season, First United Methodist Church of Port Orange has a yearly tradition to decorate its sanctuary in an event called The Hanging of the Greens.
A tradition at First United Methodist is to incorporate a "Chrismon Tree," which stands for Christ Monograms. This tradition is organized by church member Shelly Boehm. A Chrismon Tree has white and gold decorations with a crown on top, and ornaments that are made by Boehm's preschoolers.
