Sen recently published a book of poetry called "If Life Was a Dream."
Q: What inspired you to write the book?
A: I have been writing poetry since my seventh grade. My maternal grandfather was a famous historian in India and he published over twenty books. My brother Bhudeb Sen published two books before his death. He died at age twenty-three. They inspired me to publish my works. My poetry book “If Life Was a Dream” is my third book. I published a non-fiction book, “Black education in White America” and a short story collection, “Flower Still Blooms”.
Q: What is your book about, and what is your target audience?
A: This book is about human feelings. All humans go through various phases in life where love, passion, sufferings, pathos and pleasure intertwine in a homogenous fluidity that is the essence of human existence. Poetry is the language of heart and it is the universal music of humanity-without it the life will be dull and colorless. Any person who likes to read would be my target audience.
Q: What is joyful about writing, and what is painful or frustrating?
A: I love to express my thoughts through writing because it is a wonderful vehicle to use. It allows you to share your thoughts with others. Sometimes, inner thoughts bring certain facts that are too painful to express. Those moments are painful, but, it is cathartic.
Q: What other authors have influenced you?
Answer: My brother Bhudeb Sen influenced me how to write. Beside my brother, Rabindranath Tagore, Guy de Maupassant, Jean-Paul Sartre, Ernest Hemingway and Langston Hughes immensely influenced me.
Q: What is the best advice you’ve ever received about writing?
A: Try to write every day. Anything comes to your mind about some events, experiences, images and other thing that touched your heart, just jot them down on a notebook, piece of paper or notes on your cell phone. Then follow through those notes to see if some story reveals itself from its hidden corner or space.
Q: How can readers get a copy?
A: Amazon sells the book or buy it from the publisher: Austin Macauley Publishers LLC, 40 Wall Street, 33rd Floor, suite #3302, New York, NY10005, USA
