A minor complaint about noise led to a Port Orange resident's arrest last month for something completely unrelated: stolen shopping carts.

Jason Anglis was arrested at his home on Feb. 26 for possession of two shopping carts that he took from Winn-Dixie and Bealls Outlet. He used them as containers to hold debris from his yard, according to a report.

A police officer was responding to a noise complaint call when he saw the shopping carts in the driveway near the front entrance to the residence. He advised Anglis that he could not keep the carts, and to return them to the appropriate stores.

Later in the day, the officer returned to the residence and found Anglis had not returned them. Anglis reportedly had been sleeping and became argumentative. He ran into the street when the officer moved the carts to arrange for their return to the respective stores. At that point, police report that Anglis was placed into custody for possession of the carts.

Anglis had a prior history by the Volusia County Sheriff’s Department for criminal mischief. He was taken to the Port Orange Police Department and later transferred to Volusia County Branch Jail. Bond was set at $500.

The carts were returned to their rightful owners.
