Police: Port Orange police officer involved in car crash

No serious injuries were reported.

No serious injuries were reported after a Port Orange police officer was involved in a two-vehicle car crash, according to authorities. 

The Port Orange Police Department reported that the crash happened at 9:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 1 at Williamson Boulevard and Roscoe Turner Trail. The police officer was traveling southbound on Williamson Boulevard when another vehicle, a blue 2002 Ford Expedition, T-boned the officer's patrol car, according to the incident report. 

The report indicated both vehicles "sustained substantial damage" and the officer was transported to Halifax Medical Center for evaluation and treatment. The other driver, who sustained no injuries and refused treatment on the scene, was found at fault, authorities noted.

The police officer involved is expected to be back at work on his next scheduled work day, according to authorities. 

The Florida Highway Patrol is the investigating agency looking into the crash.
