Firefighters read to children and taught them about fire safety.
For National Firefighter Day on Thursday, July 19, children got to spend a fun morning hanging out with Volusia County Firefighters at the Volusia Mall.
The event, part of the “Firefighter Appreciation” Volusia KIDS program, brought in firefighters from the DeLand Fire Department, who read a story to the children and also taught them about fire safety. In addition, firefighters did a show and tell with firefighter equipment before the children were able to check out the fire truck and even try out the hose.
Engine #4 from the Daytona Beach Police Department also came out with their truck for the children to explore and take photos in.
“This month is a great opportunity for kids to meet real firefighters up close while learning about the importance of fire safety,” Kristina Circelli, marketing director for the Volusia Mall, said. “We’ll have educational activities around fire safety and a real fire truck to check out, as well as fun giveaways to take home.”
